A vehicle struck a pedestrian while driving 55 miles per hour in Agua Dulce near Sierra Highway and Mint Canyon Road Saturday night.

A 79-year-old man was attempting to cross Sierra Highway when the 63-year-old driver of a 2015 Ford Transit van traveling southbound saw the pedestrian at the last moment and swerved to the left.

As a result, the van’s right side rear-view mirror struck the pedestrian in the head causing major head trauma. When asked if the pedestrian will live, Officer K. Baker of Newhall California Highway Patrol said “he is supposed to make it.”

The incident was reported at 8:17 p.m. and cleared at 9:35 p.m.

The patient was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital by ambulance.
