Juvenile leads law enforcement on multi-city pursuit, ending in SCV

A 13-year-old driver led law enforcement officials on a car chase that spanned multiple L.A. County cities and eventually ended in the Santa Clarita Valley, early Sunday morning.

The pursuit started at 12:15 a.m. when Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officials ran the license plate of a white, Chevrolet Suburban, in Downtown L.A. in the Alameda, Cesar Chavez area. The car came up as stolen and LAPD officers attempted to pull the vehicle over.

“They ran the license plate and it came back stolen,” said Sgt. Mike Lopez of LAPD.

The driver then led them on a pursuit that eventually got onto the freeway, which is when California High Patrol took over.

The driver was arrested on the Northbound Interstate 5 just north of Lyons Avenue according to the Los Angeles Regional Traffic Management Center. After the arrest, law enforcement officials went to the parking lot of Chuck E. Cheese’s in Valencia for debriefing.

Both the 13-year-old, male driver and a 17-year-old, male occupant were arrested.

California Highway Patrol made the arrest but the juveniles were booked by LAPD.

Note: The arrest location has been corrected to state the Northbound Interstate 5 just north of Lyons Avenue.
