Rio Norte Junior High School Principal Vince Ferry was named the new principal of Saugus High School Thursday.
“I’m excited about it,” Ferry said. “Right now, what I’m looking forward to doing is getting to know the students, parents and staff. Saugus is a great school and does a lot of great things and I need to spend my time studying Saugus and getting to know everyone there.”
Ferry is expected to take over for current Saugus High School Principal Bill Bolde who announced his retirement in late March after 14 years with the district.
Bolde told The Signal on March 30 that he is stepping down from his position to spend more time with his family and begin a “new chapter” of his life; however, he expressed gratitude to those who worked with over the years and the partnerships he made through his position.
“I spent two hours with Bill this afternoon. He’s been very gracious with me and doing a lot of mentoring with me,” Ferry said. “He’s a proud dad of that school and I’m trying to soak up all that knowledge from him right now and continue the work he’s been doing.”
Ferry has experience working with students at the high school level.
Before joining Rio Norte Junior High School as principal in 2014, Ferry acted as a Hart District special education teacher for nine years, director of Valencia High School’s ASB program for four years and assistant principal of Valencia High School.
“I spent 20 of my 23 years in education at the high school so that’s where I grew up in terms of the students I worked with,” Ferry said. “It’s an exciting place to be. I always say the busiest place to be is at any high school in the Hart District.”
Ferry said it will be bittersweet leaving Rio Norte where he has built a strong community and grown as an administrator.
“There will be some tears leaving behind the whole community,” he said. “Whoever does get this job is inheriting a great community. The parents here have been involved and supportive, the teachers here work so hard and the kids are incredible.”
It is unknown when Ferry will officially move from his position at Rio Norte Junior High School to his new position at Saugus High School.
