A Newhall man was arrested on suspicion of theft and felony vandalism Sunday after he allegedly slashed the tires on his girlfriend’s car, then allegedly stole her wallet.

Colton Grooms, identified by deputies as a 19-year-old man who works as a stocker, was arrested about 7:45 p.m. Sunday in connection with an incident that allegedly happened earlier that day.

“On Sunday morning around 4 a.m., deputies responded to Circle J Park, near Rolling Ridge Road and Circle J, regarding a vandalism call,” Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station told The Signal Monday.

“Suspect Grooms and the victim – his girlfriend – were in a verbal altercation that escalated, and ultimately ended up with Groom slashing the tires of his girlfriend’s vehicle,” she said.

He also threw objects at her vehicle, shattering the windshield, she said.

“During the altercation, the suspect took the victim’s wallet,” Miller said.

Grooms was arrested, then taken to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station where he was booked.
