Deputies surrounded a bank in Canyon Country Wednesday morning – not in response to a robbery – but in response to a phone call from a woman worried her husband was going to kill himself.

The incident happened about 9:30 a.m. when deputies of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call from a Canyon Country woman that her husband was possibly suicidal, Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station told The Signal.

“She also said that he possibly had a firearm,” she said.

Deputies immediately began searching for the man, whose identity was not disclosed.

“Then they learned about a (bank) transaction at the U.S. Bank near Friendly Valley Parkway,” Miller said.

Deputies responded immediately to the bank and “contained the bank area,” she said.

“They were able to detain a 38-year-old male,” Miller said, noting it was not known if the man was armed or not.

“He’s been taken to the hospital for evaluation,” she said.
