A bill collector from Canyon Country who apparently stopped to rest under a tree was arrested Thursday on suspicion of trespassing, a misdemeanor.

The 39-year-old man was arrested Thursday shortly after 1:15 p.m. when Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies on patrol stumbled upon him.

“On Thursday afternoon, deputies were conducting a foot patrol in a wash area near Jakes Way and Canyon Boulevard, in Canyon Country, where there are multiple signs warning pedestrians of trespassing violations,” Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station told The Signal Friday.

“Deputies observed (the man) laying under a tree in a gated area with ‘No Trespassing’ signs. He was arrested for trespassing,” she said.

About five hours after he was arrested, the suspect was released from custody after posting bail which was set at $500.

He was scheduled to appear at the Santa Clarita Courthouse March 1, 2018.
