This past year, Rep. Steve Knight has passed multiple pieces of legislation in the House that will make tremendous strides toward helping women in our community.
These pieces of legislation help female entrepreneurs, women entering the STEM fields, and accommodate new mothers while traveling.
To achieve equal representation for female business owners, there must be programs that help provide these women with the tools they need to build a successful business.
Knight addressed the need for more women entrepreneurs in the Women’s Business Centers Improvement Act, which proposes an increase in funding and service quality for the Women’s Business Center program in order to provide female business owners with access to mentoring, training, and business counseling.
Historically males have been overrepresented in the STEM fields, which leaves young females without nearly as many mentors to look up to.
Knight has worked to close this gap by introducing the Women In Aerospace Education Act, which directs NASA to increase recruiting and fellowship programs directed toward women.
Introducing more women to this field will ensure a more diverse aerospace field in the future, and Congressman Knight is working to make it happen.
Additionally, Knight has focused on improving the quality of motherhood. He introduced the Friendly Airports for Mother’s Act to accommodate new mothers who are traveling with their infants.
This act requires all airports to provide mothers with a safe, private, and cleanly area to breastfeed their newborn babies.
Not only has Congressman Knight endeavored to understand the challenges that women face in the workforce, STEM education field, and in the course of everyday life, but also he is taking action to help fix these problems.
Knight has passed each of these laws with the hope of helping the women throughout our comm.
