William S. Hart Union High School District officials issued a statement Monday reminding families with current eighth-grade students that the deadline to apply for the iCAN Academy at Castaic High School is approaching.

Planning to open its doors the same day as the campus it’ll be hosted on, iCAN Academy is structured to give students a unique opportunity to combine high school academics and college classes beginning in the 9th grade, according to district officials.

While it is similar to Academy of the Canyons, iCAN sets itself apart by giving students the opportunity to get the comprehensive high school experience and participate in extracurricular activities such as athletics, the statement said.

District administrators said the academy will feature partnerships with College of the Canyons, high school and college dual credit opportunities, career certifications, and access to Castaic High School’s new facilities and 58-acre campus.

The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 15, and in order to qualify, applicants must be scheduled to begin the ninth grade in the fall of the 2019-20 school year.

Those wishing to learn more information about iCAN Academy can visit castaichighschool.org and click on the application link. Interested families have also been encouraged to reach out to the Castaic High School principal, Melanie Hagman at 661-259-0033 ext. 450, or [email protected].
