The 2019 Howard Fisher’s Cougar Basketball Camp is now accepting registration for its two sessions that will occur during the summer.
The College of the Canyons men’s basketball program invites boys and girls in grades three through eight to participate in the camp, which is open to players of all skill levels, according to a news release sent Friday. “Taking grade and age into account, each camper will be evaluated on the first day of camp and placed into groups that will allow them to maximize their opportunity to improve.”
Each four-day camp session seeks to provide attendees with a unique opportunity to learn new techniques and strengthen current skills as camp meetings will be led by men’s basketball head coach Howard Fisher, his staff of assistants and players who have been a part of the school’s eight-time Western State Conference champion program.
All major areas of basketball will be covered, including: shooting, passing, ball handling, individual offense, defense, rebounding, and team play, officials said, mentioning each camp session will be highlighted by fundamental instruction, skills contests, guest speakers and team competition.
“This event is one of my most enjoyable responsibilities as a coach,” Fisher said in the release. “The Cougar Basketball Camp provides a fun, fast-paced environment for young people to learn the game as well as meet new friends. Our staff strives to instill confidence in every camper, while making sure the sport of basketball is always fun.”
The 2019 Cougar Basketball Camp is set to occur on consecutive weeks and will be located in the college’s East P.E. gymnasium, on the Valencia campus.
The first session will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, July 8, until Thursday, July 11. The following week’s camp will also go from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and runs from Monday, July 15, through Thursday, July 18.
A $225 per player registration fee must be paid prior to each session and space is limited, officials said, adding campers who register prior to the early registration date will save $25 per camper if their registration is received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 15.
Families with more than one camper can also receive a discount of $20 for each additional child who registers by entering the promo code “Cougar2” at checkout, according to the news release. Participants will receive a camp T-shirt, written player evaluation and camp photo.
All proceeds will directly support the COC men’s basketball program and residents are invited to register online at cocathletics.com/camps
