The arrival of warm weather and sunny days means it’s almost summer time, but it also means it’s almost time for Ice Station Valencia’s annual “Skate into Summer” Open House on Sunday, May 19.

This is the Ice Station’s way to remind residents of a way to beat the heat while enjoying some time on the ice.

“It’s a day for families to come and see what we’re about and understand what services we offer,” said Chelese Jensen, an administrative assistant who also handles the rink’s social media.

The Ice Station not only has public ice skating, but also offers hockey and figure skating lessons year round.

The event is expected to include ice skating, a hockey clinic, figure skating exhibition, craft tables, hot chocolate and a raffle with prizes.

There will also be “snow play” for the younger kids where the smaller rink will be filled with powdered ice, or “snow,” and they will be able to make snowballs, snow angels and even go sledding, according to Jensen.

The Skate into Summer open house is scheduled 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at the Ice Station Valencia located at 27745 Smyth Drive. For more information, call the Ice Station at 661-775-8686.
