A hiker who went missing after falling off the trail at Towsley Canyon in Stevenson Ranch on Saturday made his way back to his car and drove himself home, according to officials.

The hiker became disoriented after falling off the trail and didn’t know where he was, said Lt. Robert Hahnlein of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Los Angeles County Search and Rescue officials searched for the hiker for nearly three hours before the search was called off.

Sheriff’s officials went to the man’s home to make sure that he was safe before breaking down the investigation, Hahnlein said.

Deputy Robert Garcia of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station confirmed that the hiker was found and is “OK.”

The hiker got lost in the long brush half-mile from the trail end and contacted sheriff’s officials at 8:01 p.m. before his phone died, Hahnlein said.
