College of the Canyons faculty have made their choice loud and clear: Edel Alonso is the teacher’s choice for COC. As a retired COC counselor and former faculty leader, she is intimately familiar with all aspects of running a community college, including instructional programs, student services and business services.

During her first term on the board, faculty and the public have witnessed Edel Alonso ask pertinent and thoughtful questions, especially regarding the spending of taxpayer monies. She is an advocate for quality instruction and ethical practices, and most importantly, a force for student success. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, thorough and considerate in her evaluation of board agenda items.

COC is proud of the fact that it is a Hispanic-serving institution and Edel is the first Latina to serve on the board of trustees. As such, she is an important voice and advocate for the Hispanic student community.
