What began as an adventure turned into a business after Canyon Country residents Cole and Kelly Parrish decided to help more people get away and adventure outdoors.

“We took a trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons, and it was just a game-changer,” Kelly said. “We came back so refreshed.”

Cole agreed, adding that he quickly realized the benefit getting away had on his mental health.

“There’s just something about being out in nature where you can zone out of everything else for just a little window,” he said. “It just gives you a fresh perspective and reminds you of what matters most and just lets you clear your head.”

As their love for the outdoors grew, they realized they could help others have the same experience by giving them all the tools they needed.

“We ran into several people that wanted to go camping, but they just didn’t have the gear or they didn’t have the right vehicle,” Cole said.

“Or they just didn’t have the knowledge of, ‘How do I do this?’” Kelly added. “So, we created this because the outdoors should be accessible to everyone. And there’s just something so indescribable about getting away, being in nature, being unplugged. … You just don’t know it until you experience it, and some people just don’t have that opportunity, so we want to make it easy.”

Launched just weeks ago, Get Away Overland allows people to rent one of two Jeeps equipped with everything they need to get away.

“We have worked countless hours for five months to get it launched, but it’s a continual process to get everything better and better,” Cole said.

Both Jeeps, a Wrangler and a Renegade, are equipped with rooftop tents with memory-foam mattresses, along with all the camping essentials, such as a table, camp chairs, grill and propane, pre-chilled cooler, pots, pans, silverware, a French press and then some.

“We just gathered what we use … but we upgraded a lot of stuff to the level of camping we want to give people,” Kelly said. “People just have to bring their groceries and toiletries, that’s it. We provide the rest.”

The Parrishes have continued to upgrade their equipment, including adding a custom air mattress that fits perfectly in the back of the Wrangler when the seats are down, allowing more sleeping room in addition to the Roofnest, with more on the way.

For them, it’s the versatility of the Jeeps that allow people to get out and adventure comfortably that makes their company unique.

“It’s not as bulky as an RV or even a camper van,” Cole added. “Both (Jeeps) are 4×4. They’re made for the offroad, and it just makes it convenient.”

The Jeeps are also perfect for both designated campgrounds or dispersed camping anywhere in a national forest, giving people more versatility on where to go, they said.

“We want to give them our personal touches, so if they don’t know where to camp, we’ll give them suggestions,” Kelly added.

They also walk people through all the equipment provided, teaching them how it all works, Cole said.

“We’re providing all the essentials, so there’s a lot in there,” he said. “If you don’t know that it’s there or don’t know how to use it, then it is not effective. So we walk them through every aspect. … We want to take the stress out of getting outdoors.”

The Parrishes hope to continue expanding their fleet, with the goal of helping as many people “Get Away Overland” as possible.

“Despite all the hardships and stress the pandemic has created for so many, our company is hoping to help people get away and adventure outdoors,” Cole added.
