Someone called 911 and reported an active shooter on Sunday afternoon at Real Life Church in Valencia. Numerous law enforcement units, including Los Angeles County Search and Rescue, showed up to learn there was no disturbance at the church, no shots fired and no victims, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
According to Deputy Nicolas Marinelli of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, a 911 call came in at about 12:26 p.m. with false information about an active shooter at the church in the 23800 block of Newhall Ranch Road.
“We’re trying to look for the person who called,” Marinelli said during a telephone interview shortly after 12:40 p.m. “If we find them, they’ll be arrested for falsifying an emergency.”
Real Life Church was hosting a barbecue Sunday afternoon in the parking lot at the time of the call. Law enforcement officers were seen talking with various people in the parking lot.
According to Deputy Villalobos of the SCV Sheriff’s Station, no arrests were made as of 1 p.m. She added that there was still an active investigation underway.
