CHP: Man detained after sitting on freeway shoulder

A man was detained after being found sitting on the shoulder of the truck routes in the Newhall Pass on Wednesday afternoon, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Unit. 

The man was a pedestrian and was assumed to have walked onto the freeway before he was detained, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP Newhall-area Office. 

Witnesses reported to officers that the man was sitting on the shoulder around 4 p.m., along the State Route 14 northbound and Interstate 5 southbound truck routes, according to Officer A. Delos-Reyes with Traffic Management.  

Officers arrived on the scene, contacted the person and then detained the person around 4:01 p.m., Delos-Reyes said. 

The man was placed on a psychiatric hold, Burgos-Lopez said.  

There is no additional information at the time of this publication, according to Delos-Reyes.
