Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a Castaic teen after a driver was found passed out and crashed into a tow truck near one of the city’s busiest intersections early Sunday morning.

SCV Sheriff’s Station officials responded to a call reporting a traffic collision around 5 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Magic Mountain and McBean parkways in Valencia.

“It was reported that a male adult driver in pickup truck had collided into the rear of a tow truck and the driver was ‘passed out,’” according to an email Monday from Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the station.

“Upon arrival, deputies located the vehicle and were able to rouse the driver after several knocks on the window,” she wrote. “Upon making contact, deputies observed signs and symptoms of impairment consistent with alcohol intoxication.”

The 19-year-old was given field sobriety tests, and deputies ended up making a determination that the driver’s blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit.

“He was arrested on misdemeanor DUI charges, transported to SCV Sheriff’s Station jail for booking and later released the same day with a pending court appearance,” Miller wrote.

The suspect did not have a court date listed as of this story’s publication.
