Virtual primary care provider LifeMD has appointed Dr. Tara Scott, a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist and menopause specialist, as ambassador and clinical advisor for its women’s health program. The appointment signals the company’s expanded commitment to addressing gaps in care for women navigating perimenopause, menopause, and hormonal health.
Dr. Scott, widely known as “The Hormone Guru,” brings more than 25 years of clinical and teaching experience to the role, including certification as a menopause practitioner with The Menopause Society. Her expertise spans functional and integrative medicine, with national recognition for research-backed hormonal balancing strategies that have been featured in Women’s Health, Shape, Newsweek, and other national publications.
Building Comprehensive Virtual Care
The appointment reflects what Jessica Friedeman, Chief Marketing and Product Officer at LifeMD, describes as the company’s commitment “to building one of the most thoughtful and comprehensive women’s health offerings in the country”. Dr. Scott’s voice and expertise will guide outreach, education, and program development, helping LifeMD address aspects of medicine that remain underdiagnosed and underserved.
“LifeMD’s women’s health initiative is designed to address the critical, often overlooked needs of women in perimenopause, menopause, and beyond,” Friedeman explained. “Dr. Scott’s role will ensure we continue to deliver thoughtful, clinically-supported solutions that set a new standard in accessible, expert-led care for women in their healthcare journey”.
The virtual women’s health program combines clinical consultations with personalized therapies, including hormone treatment and lifestyle strategies designed to promote long-term health. The platform takes what LifeMD characterizes as a holistic approach, with tiered subscriptions that include lab access, mail-order prescription fulfillment, and dietitian support.
Additionally, LifeMD+ membership provides patients with 24/7 urgent and primary care access, prescription renewals, and a marketplace of clinically validated wellness products. This integrated approach allows patients to access multiple layers of care through a single platform, addressing both immediate health concerns and long-term wellness planning.
Addressing Underserved Medical Needs
Women’s health extends far beyond reproductive and maternity care, yet significant treatment gaps persist across multiple conditions. Only one in four women seeks treatment for menopause-related symptoms, according to data cited by LifeMD. This statistic underscores the challenge many women face in accessing appropriate care during a critical life transition.
“LifeMD’s thoughtful approach to evidence-based, personalized care directly addresses the gaps and confusion so many women experience, particularly around menopause and hormone-related issues,” Dr. Scott stated. Her role will focus on helping women navigate these challenges through education and accessible clinical expertise.
Dr. Scott will guide program development and public education efforts around critical health areas including perimenopause, menopause, hormonal balance, bone density, metabolism, and long-term wellness. These areas represent aspects of women’s health that often receive insufficient attention in traditional healthcare settings, despite their significant impact on quality of life and long-term health outcomes.
Clinical Expertise and Academic Background
Dr. Scott’s background combines extensive clinical practice with academic leadership. She earned her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed her residency with Summa Health System at Akron City Hospital in Ohio. Her teaching roles have included serving as Associate Clinical Professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University and as Course Director for Women’s Health in the Integrative & Functional Medicine Fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.
As a practicing clinician, Dr. Scott has spent her career advocating for improved women’s health outcomes. “This program is an opportunity to empower women with the clarity, support, and clinical expertise they need to better navigate the aging process, make informed choices, and prevent chronic disease,” she explained.
Her approach emphasizes research-backed strategies that combine conventional medical treatments with evidence-based integrative approaches, reflecting her training in both traditional obstetrics and gynecology and functional medicine.
