A vehicle whose driver was wanted for a cellphone violation and failing to yield prompted a pursuit Friday from the Antelope Valley into the San Fernando Valley, passing through the Santa Clarita Valley on the way, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office and televised video footage.

The pursuit began on the southbound lanes of State Route 14 in CHP Antelope Valley’s area, but as it entered the SCV, CHP Newhall officers took over at around 1:04 p.m., said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, a spokesman for CHP Newhall.

According to preliminary information, it appears the driver of the silver Toyota may have had a cellphone in his hand when an officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to perform a traffic stop, Burgos-Lopez said.

The driver failed to yield, and officers engaged in the pursuit and followed the vehicle through the SCV and into the San Fernando Valley before the driver stopped at the intersection of Nordhoff Street and Woodley Avenue in the North Hills area and was taken into custody, according to televised video footage.

It appears the driver of the car was a man, and was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
