Woman killed on Soledad ID’d

The woman killed in a multivehicle collision on Soledad Canyon Road on Oct. 13 has been identified as Veronica Sowter, 82, of Newhall, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.  

First responders were dispatched to the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Golden Oak Road in Saugus at approximately 12:49 p.m. in response to a traffic collision, according to initial reports.  

Sowter was traveling in a car as a passenger with another unidentified woman only described to be in her 60s, according to Shirley Miller, a spokeswoman with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.  

Preliminary information from the investigation indicated that Sowter was the passenger of a vehicle that was traveling eastbound and the driver failed to see a red light, and as a result collided with another vehicle, and Sowter sustained fatal injuries, according to Miller.  

Due to the collision impact, two people were transported from the scene of the incident, according to initial reports.  

Sowter died at the hospital from traumatic injuries, according to the Medical Examiner.
