A man has been detained after an alleged family dispute resulted in one person holding other family members hostage with a box cutter on the 24200 block of Pine Street in Newhall, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The initial call came out at 3:16 p.m. Sunday with deputies arriving and immediately detaining the suspect, according to Sgt. Josh Nemeth with the station.
The brother, who was the suspect, was holding his family members hostage. The mother and brother who called were inside the residence, according to observations at the scene.

Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene at 3:19 and were staged at the scene at 3:24 p.m., according to Fred Fielding, public information officer with the Fire Department.
There was a large glass bottle that was taken as evidence, according to observations at the scene.
The father was transported due to his injuries where he was bleeding from his left ear.
However, Fielding said he did not see a record of a transport, but did see one patient with minor injuries in the initial reports.
There is no additional information available as of the publication of this story, due to deputies still being on the scene investigating, according to Nemeth.
