A 19-year-old Newhall man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after an alleged family dispute escalated and he held his family hostage with a box cutter on the 24200 block of Pine Street on Sunday afternoon, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The man struck his father with a hard object, causing a head injury, and sprayed his mother with cleaning chemicals, according to Sgt. Anthony Levin with the station.
The initial call came out at 3:16 p.m. Sunday with deputies arriving and immediately detaining the suspect, according to Sgt. Josh Nemeth with the station during a phone call on Sunday afternoon.

The suspect was the brother who was holding his family members hostage. The mother and other brother who called were inside the residence, according to observations at the scene.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the scene at 3:19 and were staged at the scene at 3:24 p.m., according to Fred Fielding, public information officer with the Fire Department.
There was a large glass bottle that was taken as evidence, according to observations at the scene.
The father was transported due to his injuries and was bleeding from his left ear.
Fielding said he did not have a record of a transport, but did see one patient with minor injuries in the initial reports on Sunday.
