The William S. Hart Union High School District governing board is set to recognize two Valencia High School students for earning the Gold Medal Congressional Award, and is recommended to accept a Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation donation of $173,000 in scholarship grants during Wednesday’s meeting, according to the agenda.
Valencia High seniors Andrew Kim and Arene Oh will be acknowledged by the governing board for earning the Gold Medal Congressional Award, which recognizes initiatives, service and achievement for individuals ages 14 to 24, according to the agenda item.
The board is also recommended to accept a scholarship grant donation of $173,000 from the Henry Mayo Newhall Foundation that will be distributed in 2026, the agenda item reads.
The Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Foundation is responsible for selecting the scholarship winners at a later date, and the funds will be distributed at comprehensive high schools, according to the agenda item.
The distribution per site will be one scholarship at $5,000, two scholarships at $4,000, two scholarships at $3,000, and two scholarships at $2,500, totaling $24,000 per comprehensive high school, the agenda item reads.
“The names of the recipients will be presented to the board in June 2026, and the required report to the HMN Foundation will be forwarded before July 31, 2026,” the agenda item stated.
During Wednesday’s meeting, an individual will be given the One Hart Award by the governing board, which recognizes staff, students and community members who exemplify the Hart district core values which are caring, creativity, community and courage.
The Hart district governing board meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will be held at the district office located at 21380 Centre Pointe Parkway.
