The Saugus Union School District governing board is set to consider accepting the proposed recommendations from the Behavior Council on tools and strategies to enhance student success and well-being, receive a presentation on school boundaries and site capacity, and conduct second readings of board policies during Tuesday’s meeting.
As the district continues to tackle student behavior challenges, the Behavior Council members, along with staff including teachers, social workers and behavior specialists, have researched and collaborated to identify evidence-based behavior management strategies, according to the meeting agenda.
Some key topics of the essential tools and strategies include implementing proactive, preventative strategies that can reinforce positive behavior, encouraging students to develop self-regulation skills, and make constructive choices both in and outside of the classroom, according to the agenda item.
The recommendations also cover the topics of promoting inclusive and equitable practices to be adaptable for the diverse needs of students regardless of background, learning style, or ability so all students can receive the support needed to succeed.
For teachers, the recommendations also include a professional development plan to equip them and other staff with knowledge and skills to effectively apply in different school settings, the agenda item reads.
A school boundaries presentation is also scheduled to be given by Assistant Superintendent of Business Nick Heinlein during Tuesday’s meeting, which will share insight on all Saugus district school sites and their classroom numbers and site capacities, according to the agenda item.
The second reading on board policies in relation to absences and excuses, work permits, attendance supervision, district attendance review board, and others are also set to be presented and adopted, according to the agenda.
Tuesday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. and at the Saugus Union School District Office located at 24930 Avenue Stanford, Valencia.
