A gunshot victim is stable but still in critical condition as of Wednesday evening after a shooting on the 22200 block of Park Street on Tuesday night, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
A fight reportedly broke out at around 8:26 p.m. at Creekview Park when a man flashed a handgun, according to first responder radio dispatch traffic.
Deputies and paramedics responded to the area and later upgraded the call as an assault with a deadly weapon, according to reports from the scene.
Several deputies were searching around the park for shell casings or evidence left behind.
Watch Sgt. Josh Nemeth reported that deputies had received a call originating from 4th Street and Pine Street in Newhall, with the caller reporting that juveniles were fighting and that a person in the vicinity claimed to have a firearm. Later, an unknown person called authorities saying that they had been shot but refused to provide any additional information before hanging up.
While the second call was initially believed to have originated from a location on Camp Plenty Road, sheriff’s deputies used department resources to trace the call’s true origins to the 22200 block of Park Street.
Once on the scene, deputies were able to link the two calls together and learned that a shooting occurred in the area. Deputies also learned that a gunshot victim had been taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. Deputies are actively investigating the incident, according to Nemeth.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were staged nearby in case they were needed, but there were no reports of additional injuries or transports, according to Kaitlyn Aldana with the Fire Department.
No additional information is available as of the time of this publication, according to Deputy Charlie Upchurch with the station.
