A Walmart big rig from Bakersfield was involved in a pursuit that began near Newhall Ranch Road and Vanderbilt Way on Tuesday afternoon, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The incident began when California Highway Patrol Newhall-area officers were monitoring SCV Sheriff’s Station radio dispatch around 12:27 p.m., according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, public information officer with the CHP.
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy found the suspect vehicle heading onto Interstate 5, northbound at Highway 126, Burgos-Lopez said.
Officers got behind the vehicle to initiate a felony stop, and the vehicle yielded on I-5 south of Templin Highway around 12:36 p.m., according to Burgos-Lopez.
The big rig had Indiana plates, according to Burgos-Lopez.
Deputies responded to the pursuit starting a few miles south of Lake Hughes Road, according to Deputy Mariela Picard, PIO with the station.
CHP officers detained the suspect and turned over custody to SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies due to them being the handling agency, Burgos-Lopez said.
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, Picard said.
Deputies are still actively investigating the scene and there is no additional information available as of the publication of this story, Picard said.
