Los Angeles County Medical Examiner officials have identified the two minors who were pronounced dead after a fatal traffic collision on Interstate 5 near Vista Del Lago on Thursday afternoon.
Jorge Preciado, 9, and Jayden Preciado, 6, were identified as the two minors who died after being ejected from the blue Nissan Rogue in the fatal collision.
Jorge Preciado, 28, of Long Beach, who was the father of the six children in the Nissan Rogue, was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment and was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office.
CHP officers received the call of the incident around 2:56 p.m. about the multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of I-5, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.
“Upon CHP personnel arriving, it was determined a gold Toyota Rav4 was stopped in the center median waiting with a family member,” Burgos-Lopez wrote in an emailed statement on Thursday. “A blue Nissan Rogue, occupied by two adults and six minors, was traveling northbound I-5 south of Vista Del Lago Road and approaching the Toyota RAV4 when, for an unknown reason, the driver lost control.”
“Today’s loss of two young lives is heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with the families of those involved in this tragedy. This is an important reminder that child safety seats are of utmost importance in providing safety on the roadway,” CHP Capt. Bob Purvis said in the news release.
