Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials said the death of a man found down an embankment Wednesday morning was under investigation by the Traffic Unit.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department was dispatched at 10:01 a.m. to the intersection of north Sierra Highway and Needham Ranch Parkway for a medical emergency call, said Jonathan Torres, public information officer for the agency.
The first responding unit arrived at the scene 10 minutes later and pronounced a person dead on arrival, Torres added.
Sheriff’s Department officials are still working to determine the exact cause of death because there were no witnesses. The man is believed to have died hours before first responders were notified, according to Sgt. Mark Perkins of the station’s Traffic Unit. He said deputies suspect the man was hit by a car based on the nature of his injuries.

The person’s identity has not been released pending the next-of-kin notification, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.
At approximately 1 p.m., sheriff’s deputies and officials with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner could be seen conducting their investigation and redirecting traffic.
A deputy on scene could not release any information on the incident and deferred comment to the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
