Reports: Man sets house on fire

A man was reported to have set his family home on fire at the 29100 block of Flowerpark Drive in Canyon Country on Saturday, according to Capt. Brian Kight, with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

According to Kight, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station received a call that there was a person who was initially barricaded inside the home. 

According to Sgt. Ryan Elsee with the SCV Sheriff’s Station, deputies responded to a medical  emergency call, with reports of the man allegedly suicidal. The property was engulfed in flames by the time deputies were on the scene.  

It is unclear where the man is at the time of this story’s publication. 

The family members of the residential property initially believed that the man, who is an immediate relative, set the home on fire after a dispute and possibly fled after jumping over the fence, according to Kight. 

The fire was initially dubbed the “Flowerpark Incident.” Firefighters were dispatched at 1:06 p.m. and on the scene at 1:14 p.m. 

According to Kight, the incident is a first-alarm fire as of the publication of this story. 

According to reports from the scene, the roof of the home fully collapsed. Firefighters are still in defense mode, at the time of this story’s publication. Search and Rescue will search the premises once the fire is extinguished.  

No injuries or damage to other structures were reported at the time of this story’s publication. The incident is being investigated as arson at the time of this story’s publication.
