The Saugus Union School District’s governing board is scheduled to have a closed-session conference in relation to negotiations with a housing development company interested in the Santa Clarita Elementary School property on Wednesday, according to the board’s special meeting agenda.
A housing development company has shown interest in the former Santa Clarita Elementary School property located at 27177 Seco Canyon Road. The governing board will review the proposed price and terms of payment from Marc Homes LLC., according to the agenda item.
Marc Homes is a company with over 20 years of experience and has “comprised a team of homebuilding professionals who know what they do makes a profound difference in the lives of our homeowners and their families,” states the company’s website.
In a brief phone call Tuesday evening, governing board member Christopher Trunkey said it will be the first time the governing board is set to review the housing development company’s proposal.
Other governing board members and district officials could not be reached for comment as of press time Tuesday.
Over the past several months, the governing board has had meetings in relation to Santa Clarita Elementary’s property disposition open to the public where they discuss what the district may do with the school site that closed its doors in 2023.
Among those options were sale of the property, long-term leases, short-term leases, and change of property. The city of Santa Clarita has also expressed interest in acquiring the property.
Since the school’s closing, members of the community have expressed that they do not wish to turn the former school site into housing, which the governing board has acknowledged and stated will be a priority when moving forward with the decision process.
The next open-session board meeting about the property’s fate is scheduled for Jan. 28, according to the district’s website.
The board is not scheduled to discuss the negotiations when it emerges from closed session on Wednesday, but would be required to report any action taken during the closed session.
A public comment session is scheduled to occur at the beginning of the meeting before the board goes into the closed session on Wednesday. The meeting is scheduled to begin 5:30 p.m. at the district office, 24930 Avenue Stanford, Valencia.
