A water main break on McBean Parkway that interrupted water service for some nearby residents was repaired Monday evening, but associated road closures won’t be lifted until at least 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Kevin Strauss, Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency communications manager, said SCV Water confirmed the main had broken near the intersection of McBean Parkway and Sunset Hills Drive around 4:30 p.m. Monday.
“Yesterday afternoon we started receiving calls around 4:20 p.m. I believe about water pressure loss and water service loss,” Strauss said. “That was confirmed around 4:30 p.m., and our crews worked quickly to restore that water main … that was completed by 5:30 p.m.”
Crews isolated the water main causing the issue – a broken 16-inch PVC pipe, Strauss said. The water was redirected into an alternate water main in the system while the broken pipe was repaired.
The paving company working to restore the surface of the road is expected to complete the project by 8 p.m. Tuesday. Until then, the road closure is to remain in place.
Strauss said the stretch of McBean Parkway between Decoro Drive and Copper Hill Drive will continue to be blocked off for drivers until the repair is complete.
