The people were reported as being surrounded by water in the South Fork of the Santa Clara River.

It is unknown how the four people got there, but there were no cars around, according to Capt. David Dantic with the Fire Department.

The riverbeds throughout the valley are known to be the location of multiple homeless encampments.

A helicopter dropped two swimmers off to evaluate the patients while the helicopter began landing, per radio dispatch traffic.

The helicopter landed on the island where the people were and successfully picked up the patients at 11:09 a.m., according to Dantic.

There were no reported injuries and the call closed at 11:13 a.m., according to Dantic.

There is no additional information at the time of this publication, Lai said.
