Two people were treated for minor injuries following a traffic collision on State Route 14 where witnesses reported that one of the vehicles involved rolled off the freeway and landed on surface streets, according to a California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office official.

Following an investigation, CHP officers learned a box truck and a tow truck were traveling on the southbound lanes of SR-14 when they collided, according to CHP Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, a spokesman for the Newhall office. The crash occurred at approximately 11:05 a.m.

The tow truck was carrying a car on the flat bed and following the collision it drove off the freeway and landed on the dirt near Sierra Highway at Dockweiler Drive in Newhall, Burgos-Lopez said. The box truck involved also flipped over and remained on the freeway, he added.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called to the scene and treated the driver and a passenger traveling in the tow truck after they were extricated, according to Burgos-Lopez and Edith Lai, a spokeswoman for the Fire Department. They were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Burgos-Lopez added.

The No. 4 lane on the southbound side remained closed at the time of this story’s publication for guardrail repair and no arrests were made.
