A 23-year-old Newhall man arrested Dec. 30 on suspicion of kidnapping was released Friday with no charges filed as of this story’s publication.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the area of Race Street and Newhall Avenue for a report of a possible domestic violence incident, according to an email from Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

“The victim, an adult female, and the suspect, an adult male, are in a dating relationship,” she wrote Wednesday. “The victim reported that she was riding in the suspect’s vehicle when the two became involved in a verbal argument. The victim told the suspect she wanted to exit the vehicle; however, the suspect continued driving.”

The report also stated the alleged victim was able to exit the vehicle after it stopped at a Newhall convenience store, Miller noted.

Deputies ultimately made contact and the alleged victim declined medical treatment, Miller wrote.

The suspect was booked Dec. 30 at the SCV Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of a misdemeanor of domestic battery allegation and two felonies: kidnapping and false imprisonment.

However, when the suspect appeared in court Friday, he was ordered released in lieu of a penal code that indicates there was insufficient evidence to pursue charges.

There was no charge information available as of this story’s publication Monday.
