The Saugus Union School District’s governing board is set to have a special board meeting in regard to its superintendent search on Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the district’s Education Center.

Presentations will be given by three separate search firms aimed at finding the next superintendent set to replace Colleen Hawkins. Following eight years leading the Saugus district, Hawkins announced her retirement effective July 1 of this year in mid-November.

Education Support Services Group, Leadership Associates, and McPherson & Jacobson will be the firms presenting their recruitment process to the governing board, including the consultants who would be working closely on the matter.

The governing board will then have a discussion and is expected to choose one of the firms.

Education Support Services Group, launched in 2006, “offers a multi-tiered approach to consulting to ensure school and community college districts succeed in their work.”

“We believe the complexity of leading today’s schools requires nuanced approaches in communication, decision making, public relations, personnel management, relationship building, and governance,” the group says on its website.

Leadership Associates recently worked with the Newhall School District and Lancaster School District for similar regional successful searches, according to a presentation attachment on the agenda item.

The agency is made up of successful superintendents “who remain actively engaged in California public education” and have an extensive network of over 1,500 subscribers that receive notifications of all open positions, according to the presentation.

McPherson & Jacobson has conducted over 1,000 successful superintendent searches in 45 states across the United States, and almost 80% of candidates hired remained in the same position in the past five years, according to the presentation.
