California Highway Patrol officers arrested a 35-year-old Palmdale man on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment following a traffic stop to investigate a vehicle crash on Highway 14.
CHP officers with the Newhall-area Office received a 911 call around 1:47 a.m. Friday of a motorist in “a white sedan driving erratically northbound on (State Route 14) near Via Princessa,” according to an email Monday from Officer Carlos Burgos Lopez, a spokesman for the office. “Additional reports came in indicating the white sedan had crashed into the guardrail on (State Route 14) near Agua Dulce Canyon Road.”
Newhall-area officers caught up to the white sedan described by informants near Crown Valley Road, according to Burgos-Lopez.
Officers conducted a traffic stop and then a DUI investigation before arresting the driver of the vehicle and then observing a child in the car.
“A child was located within the vehicle and was released to their caregiver on scene,” Burgos-Lopez said, adding the man was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The suspect did not have a release date or bail amount listed in the LASD custody records available online.
Records indicate he’s expected to be arraigned Tuesday at the San Fernando Courthouse.
