One of the most important parts of my job as a member of Congress is making sure our community gets its fair share of federal resources, and reflecting our district’s priorities on the national stage.
We have so many incredible institutions and projects that help keep us safe, enhance our emergency preparedness, and improve job opportunities.
When it came time to push for local investments in Washington, I made sure to advocate for programs that reflect the messages I hear from residents, first responders, and local leaders every day.
In the end, our team was able to bring home more than $15 million in federal funding to the Santa Clarita Valley, the Antelope Valley and the San Fernando Valley, and I want to walk you through a few of the ones I think will have the most significant impact.
First, we’re sending resources to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley Station, which will go toward a new mobile command center. Anyone who has lived through recent wildfire seasons knows how critical strong coordination is during emergencies.
Fires like Eaton, Hughes, Hurst and Palisades have tested our region again and again.
A modern, technologically advanced mobile command center will provide a centralized communications hub that allows law enforcement, fire departments, emergency medical services, and other agencies to coordinate effectively in real time.
That kind of coordination can mean the difference between a close call and a catastrophe.
Similarly, we were able to support the relocation of County of Los Angeles Fire Department Fire Station 81 in Agua Dulce, which will help replace an aging facility and provide space for additional firefighting equipment, improving our response times when fires break out across our region.
Another exciting investment will be going to the Santa Clarita Valley and Antelope Valley Boys & Girls Clubs’ Opioid and Substance Use Prevention Initiative.
Public safety often starts with prevention. By investing in education, mentorship, and supportive programming for young people, we can reduce risk before it turns into tragedy.
This initiative takes a proactive approach, strengthening families and giving kids the tools they need to make healthy choices long before law enforcement is ever involved.
One of the issues I hear about most from constituents is the need to improve our transportation, to ease commute times and improve safety. That’s why I’m proud to have secured federal support to modernize rail maintenance for trains that run through our district, improve traffic circulation, and enhance pedestrian safety in vital commercial hubs in the community.
Investing in our transportation not only increases safety but also economic well-being by making local businesses and jobs more accessible.
Finally, I worked with the Santa Clarita Valley Water Agency to bring home support that will help get rid of dangerous PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, that have impacted drinking wells.
These investments will help replace outdated systems, reduce health risks, and build a stronger clean water infrastructure for generations to come.
Keeping communities safe isn’t just about responding to emergencies – it’s about making smart investments that reduce harm, protect property and save lives over the long term.
I’m proud to work with sheriffs, police chiefs, mayors, nonprofit leaders, and community organizations across our district to identify where federal support can make the biggest difference.
These partnerships ensure that funding decisions are informed by local expertise and real-world needs, not one-size-fits-all solutions from Washington.
I’ll continue pushing to see these investments through to completion. I’ll also keep fighting to ensure that federal resources are used responsibly, transparently, and in ways that truly reflect the priorities of our communities.
At the end of the day, my goal is simple: Make sure our district has the tools it needs to protect families, support first responders, and build safer, more resilient communities – today and for the years ahead.
