An investigation into the circumstances of a man’s death in Castaic is underway by Homicide Detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to an LASD Nixle alert.
The incident was reported at approximately 2 p.m. Saturday at a home in the 32700 block of Ridge Top Lane, according to the LASD.
A man was pronounced dead at the scene, and it is unknown if there are any suspects, the Nixle alert stated.
According to Jonathan Torres with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, first responders were dispatched to the scene in response to a cardiac arrest call but then the report was changed to an assault. It could have been related to a domestic incident, he added.
Torres stated that there was no transport reported from the scene.
Personnel with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station could not immediately be reached at the time of this story’s publication for additional information.
Neighbors living across the street from the residence – 47-year-old Dan Palacios and his wife Candice, 43, who’ve been living in the Castaic neighborhood with their teenage daughter for about a year – said a commotion spread down the street as screaming and yelling was heard coming from the house in the early afternoon Saturday.
Dan said that he’d been conferring with neighbors for several hours after sheriff’s deputies first responded on Ridge Top Lane.
“It’s usually pretty quiet,” Dan said. “We were joking … people were saying, ‘Oh, welcome to the neighborhood, it’s so quiet up here,’” also referring to the natural gas pipeline leak that shook Castaic in December.
Dan said sheriff’s deputies had gone door-to-door in the area asking for Ring camera footage, and were still at the scene with a section of Ridge Top Lane sequestered with crime scene tape in the early evening.
