A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder at a Stevenson Ranch apartment complex, and bail was set at just over $1 million, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.

Derek Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence and burglary after Vasquez allegedly broke into the home of a woman he was dating on Tuesday, according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Department booking logs and an email statement from Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

Miller wrote in the email that the woman was physically assaulted and the man attempted to strangle her, but the perpetrator fled the scene before deputies arrived. The woman was taken from the scene for medical treatment.

Vasquez was booked at the SCV Sheriff’s Station Thursday afternoon. His bail was set to $1,030,000.
