The Castaic Animal Care Center is getting a new name during a ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the shelter.
The new name will be Santa Clarita Valley Animal Care Center.
“The Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control is excited to announce the renaming of the Castaic Animal Care Center to the Santa Clarita Valley Animal Care Center. This change reflects our commitment to serving the entire Santa Clarita Valley community and enhancing our outreach efforts to promote animal welfare,” according to a news release by the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control.
Erica Sellers, owner of social media account petlifelinescv, said she presented the idea of the name change with friend J. Eddie Peck to the county after her husband tried to look up the name on the internet, but could not find it.
“My husband and I were looking for ways we could help the shelter, and I was about to present some ideas to the county to some of the top county officials, like Marcia Mayeda, who’s head of Animal Control for L.A. County. And so, my husband was like, ‘Well, how come when you search Santa Clarita adoption, Castaic doesn’t come up? They should change the name,’” Sellers said.
Sellers said she uses her social media to help the animals from the shelter find good homes in the SCV.
“Our goal is to raise awareness for both animals and families in the Santa Clarita Valley,” Mayeda, the department director, said in the news release. “Renaming the animal care center is a reflection of our dedication to this vibrant community that has grown tremendously since the ACC was built in 1972. We hope renaming the ACC increases visitation to the Santa Clarita Valley ACC and results in even more adoptions.”
The address for the shelter is 31044 Charlie Canyon Road, Castaic.
