I have been a constant reader of The Mighty Signal since moving to Valencia/Santa Clarita over 50 years ago. While I enjoy — and learn from — many Signal articles, I don’t quite understand the current rationale behind many of the articles that cover law-breaking activities. An article published in the March 25 Signal, reporting on the actions of a misfit, is a far cry from when The Signal used to post the names of individuals who were charged with DUIs under the heading “Demon Rum.”
In an article written by Kamryn Martell, we’re told that the California Highway Patrol stated, “A woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI involving drugs and alcohol after causing two separate traffic collisions in Castaic on Monday afternoon, according to an official with the California Highway Patrol Newhall-area office.” The article goes on to state that the person (suspected of being) responsible for the first crash fled the scene and later caused a second crash.
This woman was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI involving alcohol and drugs and was booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in Los Angeles. All this mayhem and The Signal doesn’t choose to identify this woman. What has happened to the open and honest reporting that The Signal has long been noted for? Does The Mighty Signal not have an obligation to the community to identify those who would do us such harm?
