A fire dubbed the Otis fire broke out on the north side of Interstate 5 near Edison Road in Newhall Friday evening, according to the L.A. County Fire Department.

The fire had spread to 1 acre around 5 p.m., with L.A. County Fire Department personnel reaching the fire at 5:17 p.m. Firefighters had trouble reaching the fire, but reports from the scene weren’t clear about what had caused the access issues, L.A. County Fire Department spokesperson Brian Kight said.

A helicopter was deployed to the scene soon after. The fire was spreading at a low rate of speed, according to the Watch Duty application, and no structures were threatened, according to radio traffic.

The fire was reduced to about a quarter acre about 10 minutes later, stopping the flames’ forward progress around that time, Kight said.
