A man was detained after standing in lanes and striking vehicles with his hands in the area of Valencia Boulevard and The Old Road along Interstate 5 on Wednesday afternoon, according to California Highway Patrol Newhall-area Office officials.

The call came in at 2:21 p.m. and is still being investigated as of the publication of this story, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez with the CHP.

Officers contacted the man and called a “Code 4,” which means there was no further assistance needed for the incident, Burgos-Lopez said.

Officers remained on the scene, waiting for Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel to transport the man for evaluation, he added.

The man was transported to a local hospital to be placed on a mental health hold, Burgos-Lopez said in a follow-up interview.
