The College of the Canyons’ regular board meeting Wednesday features a special presentation from the Music Department, a vote on new programming at the college, Early Childhood Education program tuition changes and updates to several agreements with its partner organizations.

Before Wednesday’s consent calendar slate begins, the college’s Music Department is scheduled to give an update on the expanding commercial music program, which has seen “expanded use of the college’s recording studio” and greater student engagement, according to the meeting’s agenda.

After campus reports — including student and faculty achievement shout-outs and reports from the Academic and Classified Senates —  the board is scheduled to vote to approve new and modified courses and programs, including 13 new courses, 47 modified courses and four new programs, following the approval of the Curriculum Committee and the Academic Senate.

Next on the agenda is a board vote to approve a tuition hike for both half-day and full-day Center for Early Childhood Education enrollees for the upcoming fiscal year, between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027. Tuition for the infant/toddler program is set to increase 7% for the half-day program and 5% for the full day, while tuition for the preschool program could increase by 6% for the half-day program and 3% for the full day.

The tuition increases for the infant/toddler program “reflects increased personnel costs due to a lower staff to child ratios for the age group” and make tuition prices more comparable to other programs offered in the Santa Clarita Valley, according to the agenda.

The board will then vote to approve agreements with a series of fellow schools, medical facilities and other partner agencies for student programs and specific career training.

That includes a new agreement with Sulphur Springs Union School District to allow COC students enrolled in the occupational therapy assistant program to earn clinical experience at Sulphur Springs district facilities.

One of the final items included on the consent calendar is a board vote to approve the list of proposed and confirmed artists performing at the college’s Performing Arts Center’s Spotlight Series of Professional Concerts & Events for the 2026-27 year.

That schedule of artists includes acts set to perform between September and May of next year, with more to be confirmed.

Wednesday’s open session meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the College of the Canyons’ University Center in room 301. The meeting’s livestream can be accessed here: canyonsonline.zoom.us/j/88313800646.
