The 36th annual Art Classic, hosted by the Santa Clarita Artists Association, brought artists of all ages under one roof once again, to celebrate local art and connection on Saturday at The Centre.

The professionally judged exhibition was scheduled on both Saturday and Sunday, and welcomed guests to an art haven celebrating different medias including digital art, oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, sculpture and more.

All pieces were original and created by local artists as young as 16 and were also available for purchase. To continue celebrating local talent, $2,250 in scholarships was awarded to students who also pursued art in higher education.

But for many, like Jennette Albee and Mary Sullivan, who were present to show their support, the Art Classic and organizations like the nonprofit SCAA provide a place where like-minded people can come together to learn from one another.

“I like being around in this environment. I like being around the like-minded people who share the same passion for beauty and color,” Albee said.

“I love art because it allows you to escape into your own imagination and when you look at the art of others, you can escape into whatever it is you want to see. It doesn’t necessarily have to be what’s been painted,” Sullivan added.

For Albee, putting her artwork out for the world to see is something she’s new at, but with the SCAA, “it gives you an opportunity to share your work, get feedback from people,” she said on why it’s important to have spaces for artists.

“It’s inspiring for your own art,” and witnessing what other people have accomplished, Sullivan added.

The SCAA will continue the Art Classic celebration with a winners showcase pop-up meet & greet mini reception on Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the SCAA Gallery located at 22508 6th St., Newhall, for those who may have missed the weekend event. Guests will be able to see the art pieces up close and hear directly from the artists themselves.

The SCAA, founded in 1989, hosts monthly live art demonstrations, organizes community events and celebrates local artists with exhibits throughout the year at its gallery in Old Town Newhall.
