California Highway Patrol officers with the Newhall-area Office have said they’re still looking for the driver they believe is responsible for an Oct. 8 fatal hit-and-run collision.
CHP officials also indicated they are not releasing any suspect information at this time; however, anyone who might have seen the crash at 4:13 p.m. in the northbound lanes of State Route 14, south of Via Princessa, is asked to contact Officer Mohammed Hotaki of the Newhall-area Office.
A white Kia 5 and a Dodge Ram truck crashed into each other, which resulted in the truck flipping over and the ejection of the driver from the Dodge truck, according to an incident report from the CHP. The L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the driver of the truck as 28-year-old Semaj Weldon, of Lancaster.
The driver of the Kia, who was the sole occupant of his vehicle, fled the scene of the crash on foot prior to the arrival of law enforcement officers, according to a previous interview with Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesman for the Newhall-area Office.
Two additional passengers, whose identities were not published in the CHP report, were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment. One sustained major injuries, while the other person had less-severe injuries, according to Burgos-Lopez. Both are believed to be out of the hospital.
Anyone who might have any information regarding the crash can contact Hotaki at 661-600-1600. Anyone who would prefer to provide information anonymously can call “Crime Stoppers” by dialing 800-222-TIPS (8477), or use a smartphone by downloading the “P3 Tips” app.
