Two men were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated with one man running toward another with an ax and another man pulling out a firearm and shooting rounds on the 28000 block of Dubois Street in Val Verde on Wednesday evening, according to an official with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
The altercation happened while two men were involved in a child exchange and began fighting, according to Sgt. Mark Perkins with the station. He added that he could not confirm if the argument was over the child or was about something else.
The first man, who was the gunshot victim, began chasing the other man with an ax before the man pulled out a firearm and began firing rounds at him, Perkins said.
The victim survived the gunshots and drove himself to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital for treatment and is still there as of the publication of this story, Perkins said.
The man suspected of firing the weapon was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and the gunshot victim will be arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon once he is released from the hospital, Perkins added.
