The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is investigating a Newhall stabbing victim who received medical care Thursday night at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

The incident prompted a several-hour standoff that ultimately led to a suspect’s arrest by SCV Sheriff’s Station deputies.

Station deputies responded around 10:30 p.m. to the 21300 block of Ficus, near Valle Del Oro and Dockweiler Drive.

Upon their arrival, they learned the victim had already been taken to the local hospital by family members, according to SCV Sheriff’s Station officials.

Patrol deputies had identified a suspect from the initial report and their investigation at the scene, as a 33-year-old Hispanic man, approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall, Sgt. Jerome Gage, of the SCV Sheriff’s Station, confirmed Friday.

After learning he was suspected to still be inside the apartment complex where the incident occurred, deputies attempted to call out for him to exit the residence, according to witnesses. Several people left the home, but the suspect did not, initially.

“The suspect refused to come out, and he stayed (inside) for about three to four hours,” Gage said in a phone interview Friday.

The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau was called to the scene in case the suspect refused to exit, but ultimately, he did around 2:30 a.m., according to witnesses, who reported that the suspect exited the home with an iPad in his hands, and was complaining that it had run out of battery during the incident.

Ultimately, Wilmar Gonzalez, a 33-year-old Newhall man, was taken into custody “without further incident,” Gage said. He was booked at the station on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon at 3 a.m.

He remains in custody with a $30,000 bail amount listed as of this story’s publication, according to LASD custody records.

The condition of the victim is not known as of this story’s publication.
