The third annual “Be the Light” 5k run/walk will kick off at sunset and cruise along San Francisquito Creek Trail on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Join others as they take a stand against the devastation caused by youth substance abuse and other self-destructive behaviors by raising funds to support the work of A Light of Hope (ALOH) in our community. All of the proceeds will go to benefit the organization.

As the sun sets in Santa Clarita, beams of light will be created from headlamps and flashlights along the San Francisquito Creek Trail. These beams of light will symbolize a visual community support of love to those young people in recovery.

Awards are scheduled to be handed out to individuals and teams. Non-competitive runners and walkers can also join in the fun to support the fundraiser. All participants get a timed result.

Participants will also receive a finisher’s medal, an event-branded running shirt, a commemorative race “bib,” and a goodie bag that includes glow materials.

Runners will travel a loop that encompasses both sides of the San Francisquito Creek Trail between Copperhill Drive and Decoro Drive. The run/walk starts where the trail adjoins West Creek Park in Valencia. Runners and walkers will head south on the trail, cross the bridge at Decoro Drive, then head north on the trail, crossing back over at Copperhill Drive. Participants will continue south, ending with a dramatic nighttime finish at West Creek Park.

The music and fun is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the run/walk starting at 7 p.m. Registration is $35 for adults and $25 for youth.

West Creek Park is located at 24247 Village Circle Dr., Valencia.
