With the victory, the Vikings claimed their second league title in as many years and will represent the league in the CIF team tournament in February.

Seven Vikings had pins, including Peyton Kirk, who had his first varsity pin at the 152-pound weight class. Israel Galvan (120), Anthony Galvez (145), Derrick Top (160), Nick Lopez (170), Tyler Yost (195) and Cory Faulconer (113) also earned pins.

Additionally, Braden Smelser (138), Ben Gould (182) and Akira Bersamira (heavyweight) each won their matches.

“They know you always want your guys to stay hungry,” Valencia coach Brian Peterson said of his team’s confidence. “They can’t stick their chest out too much because every weekend we go to a tough tournament and that’s going to be hard. But when we wrestle in league … they know we’re going to win.”

The Vikings will compete in the California Invitational Tournament at Morro Bay High School on Friday and Saturday.
