Here is the Castaic/ Val Verde Crime Information and Public Safety Report for the Week of June 17, 2017 to June 26, 2017:

6-26-17

Residential Burglary-
A resident in the 36000 block of Ridge Route Road called 911 and reported an intruder in her house. Prior to deputy arrival, the victim fired one round from a handgun striking the suspect in the chest. The suspect was detained inside the victim’s house by responding deputies, first aid was rendered and the suspect was transported to the local hospital. Santa Clarita detectives are handling the investigation.

Grand Theft Auto-
The victim reported his green Honda Civic stolen from the 28000 block of Clover Leaf Place. The vehicle was recovered ¼ mile away with numerous items missing form inside. Among the stolen items were a power drill, grinder and a tool bag with miscellaneous tools.

Remember, in any community, the citizens are the first set of eyes and ears for 1st responders. It is the community who knows what “does” and “doesn’t” look right. It is you, the local citizens, who can tell who “does” and “doesn’t” belong in the area. If you see any suspicious activity, something that doesn’t look “right”, please call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at (661) 255-1121 or 9-1-1 in an emergency.

Please be aware that many of the thefts we have seen in the past have been “Crimes of Opportunity”. Never leave valuables in plain view in your vehicle, close and lock your doors. Minimize your risk of becoming a victim.
